Thank You, JoAnn!

My husband and I went on the 9 a.m. tour on 8/14/09. At first it was alittle slow, but suddenly a beautiful humpback whale gave us a show we will never forget. It came right up alon side of our boat. It was great. I videotaped it and will never forget the experience. Thank you to Capt. John's crew and boat for making this a great birthday for me. JoAnn Wyatt, NY

Thank you, Meg!

This company has been nothing but wonderful, I have used them for over ten years, always see whales, and their knowledge is plentiful. I have traveled several hours just to use them, I have been on other whale watches, and nothing compares to this, and I will never try another company again either! They are experienced, love what they do, and are the best available! Use them, they are worth it and if there is a long ride out to see the whales, depending where they are, seeing as they are animals not trapped in a horrible cage, which some previous reviewers I think missed the wave on that, pardon the pun, then enjoy the ride, it's the coast for goodness sake! Enjoy, these animals that you will see are treasured, endangered and gentle giants!

Thank You For Your Review, Al P!

A dear family member was scheduled to visit from out of town this past week, and the temperatures were forecast to be downright oppressive. We stumbled across the whale watch blog written by Krill with Capt. John Boats, and were so impressed by the sincerity of the blog that we 'took a chance' on booking a whale watch with them as the main 'family outing' during her visit. The whale watch was a 'home run' for us. Although there were only 4 whales total (including one mother and her calf) that we hand a chance to watch, the naturalist on board the ship taught us what to listen and watch for so we could see the whales surfacing over and over again. It was wonderful to be watching as the whales broke the surface, instead of waiting for a crowd to gasp and then catching just the arch of a whale's back or the flip of their tail.
We also flat-out lucked out with the weather - oppressive heat and humidity on land gave way to perfect comfortable temperatures for the whole trip, and glassy calm waters the whole way. We passed other whale watching boats at the Stellwagen Reserve, but they looked crowded - and we had plenty of elbow room to move and lots of time to play with capturing treasured photos with our camera. Our boat departed at 2pm and returned at 6pm... as soon as our returning boat was in cell range of shore one of the savvy members of our family called ahead and made a reservation at a lovely restaurant on the shore. So we stepped off the boat, down the short wharf, and were escorted right to a beautifully set table with a grand panoramic view of the wharf, the marina and the water. We couldn't have asked for a better outing, and we were glad to see and learn about the whales feeding in the marine reserve. The spacious clean boat, with 2 spacious clean bathrooms, and smiling enthusiastic crew truly made the trip something special. There was a special running on Groupon, and I've already purchased a Groupon so my husband and I can take our first opportunity to jaunt back out with Capt. John's Boats to slow down, relax, and practice our whale spotting and photography skills! We'll be back as soon as we can!!

Review From Freancesca

It was a beautiful day, a relaxing trip and entertaining whale watch. Joanne, our tour guide was magnificent; so educated, well spoken and sweet. Her love for her job really showed. The whales were everywhere. Two humpback whales decided to surround us and give us a close boat adventure. My 3 children were so excited to see the whales so close. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Thanks to Capt. John Boats and Joanne!,,

New review on Yelp

I like Captain John's. I have been out on these boats about 3 times over the last 5 years, and have no complaints. They sell food on the boat for very reasonable prices. I respect the fact they aren't trying to rip people off and also allow you to bring bag lunches etc without question. They have an educational session with a naturalist  on board on the way out. They pass around baleen and show the different types of whales and the fishes they eat. It's nice for kids to get an educational  lesson prior to meeting these sensational beasts. Overall, I like Captain John's. I think this company is very family friendly and they do a good job. Parking is also a breeze. Across from the pier there is a public lot that charges $1.00 an hour. You just need 4-5 hours.  Very convienent. Best to go early on the 9AM. Then have lunch afterward and walk around the waterfront afterward. It's a very nice day to have with family.

Enjoyed The Experience

I would definately recommend this trip. We stayed on the top and had great views from both sides of the boat. The naturalist was informative and kept us entertained for the ride out. It's the ocean people sometimes its choppy. I get sea sick fairly easily and brought dramamine with me as a precaution but luckily it was a calm day for us and we totally enjoyed the experience.

Thank You For The Wonderful Whale Watches

I wanted to take a few minutes to thank you for the wonderful whale watches your company offers. Everyone in your organization, from the employees in the ticket booth, to the boat crew, photographers, captains, galley employees and naturalists - they are all terrific! My friend and I have been on many whale watches from different companies and we absolutely love going out for the day with Captain John Boats. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable, we have learned so much from everyone on board your trips - this is part of what makes it so enjoyable! We recommend your trips to everyone we know. The daily sightings blog is also great, I check it frequently to see what's been going on out on the water - I love looking through the photos, but the videos are truly amazing - thank you for keeping us updated and excited about the next trip. We are looking forward to going back out later this summer.

It was a lot of fun

We went on July 3rd and it was a lot of fun.    Easy ride in to Plymouth and plenty of parking in the area, though parking is about a buck an hour if you want to park close.  We saw multiple humpbacks and a lot of Minky whales a couple of which swam under the boat.  Try to be on the top deck for better viewing and be ready to run from port to starboard.  The crew is knowledgeable and all and all it's a lot of fun.  Sometimes it's a little frustrating, because depending on where you are you might not be able to see what others seeing, but on my trip there was plenty of sitings.  The whole trip takes a few hours, so if you burn easy bring suntan lotion, as most of the seats up top are in the sun.  I would suggest a video camera for capturing the event with a good zoom.  If you have a camera that has a delay in taking a photo, you probably won't have enough time to get a good shot.

I was so awed by the whole experience

I went for a whale watching trip with my BFF and mum in early July. I have been on one out of the Boston harbor and had no luck with whales sighting then. With Captain John's, OMG ~ we managed to see 5 pairs of mother and calf humpbacks. That was such a nice treat. We also saw a humpback whale breaching that day. Now that was a nice treat from the lovely animal. I was so awed by the whole experience. You should definitely go on Captain John Boats if you want the real whale sighting deals. Bring a jacket., it gets a little chilly out when you are at the sea.

Our Second Whale Watch

My partner and I went on a whale watch on 8/18/12. This was our second whale watch together, and it far surpassed our first experience!!!!! We last went a couple of years ago (hard to believe) out of Boston. While the boat ride was good and we had a couple of whale sightings then, this trip was so much better (even considering that the weather was damp and cool)!!! It was educational and fun at the same time: a good event for families, couples, or individuals. Leah was our Naturalist and Boat Tour Guide. We were both struck by her knowledge of the history of Plymouth and of marine biology. We didn't receive any information about the history or biology of the area in which we were boating from Boston. Leah's pleasant disposition despite the rainy weather just put it over the top for us :). I have dietary restrictions, so it was really a bonus to be able to bring my own food. I would highly recommend Captain John Whale Watching to anyone looking for something fun, educational, and relaxing to do!! Ask for Leah!

Had An Amazing Time

Last week we took our daughter on a whale watch for her birthday and had an amazing time! As we boarded the boat, we were greeted by our naturalist Krill. As we were leaving the harbor to go out to see the whales, Krill talked about the different sights in the area and also started giving us some information about the different whales we might see. The weather was great and the ocean was smooth, but after a while I was beginning to wonder if we were going to see any whales! Then all of a sudden, they were there! We were lucky enough to see one of them breach very close to the boat! It was awesome, My daughter and I have seen breaches before, but it is unbeleivable every time you are lucky enough to see one. We also had 3 whales come up right next to the boat! Krill was so amazing at telling us where the whales were and what was happening! It was so nice to see someone who is as passionate about what she does as Krill is. Even after all the years that she has been doing this, she still gets excited right along with all the passengeers! We also noted on our way back to the harbor that Krill went around and spoke with every passenger. This was our 3rd trip this season and I'm sure we will be back again!

My Girls and I Were Thrilled

We went on the 9am whale watch on Wednesday, August 29th. My girls and I were thrilled to go because this is a treat for us. We try to go once a summer. The naturalist on the boat was a young woman who was filled with an incredible amount of knowledge. It was great to hear her share her knowledge as we watched the whales. Her excitement was evident and it made all of us that much more excited! She even came around to us individually and asked if we had any questions and how we liked the trip. I also would like to mention that the seas were rough on the way out to see the whales and the crew was very helpful and caring. They all went above and beyond to do whatever they could to help. It was a wonderful day in large measure due to the naturalist and the crew. I hope that we are able to go again soon!

Amazing Whale Watch!” – Captain John Whale Watching & …

They took us out on the most amazing whale watch! Saw several breaches, flukes, moms and calves, it was great!! A calf went under the boat and was scratching it's back on the bottom. It's wild seeing how truly small you are in the world.

It was an amazing experience and one which we will hope to …

WOW! I have been on other whale watches and seen whales but never as many as my trip from Plymouth with Captain John. the trip was was narrated by a a marine biologist who not only alerted us on the location of the whales (there were so many that often we were looking in the wrong direction) but also the types of whales and some of the specifics on them. It was an amazing experience and one which we will hope to repeat often!

Rave Review for Captain John Whale Watching and Fishing …

I thought the whale watching trio was extremely interesting and informative. The marine biologist who conducted the narration was extremely informative and very enthusiastic. The crew was polite and the boat was extremely clean. The trip was well worth the money especially if you are a landlubber.
